Why Pet License?

Being the owner of the Pet, it is your responsibility that you should get your pet Licensed with the Government Municipal Corporation of your locality. Failing to do so can put you and your pet into troubles with the Law.

As per Municipal Corporation Act tax on Pet dogs has been applied and is collected by issuing Dog licenses to respective owners. Another reason to issue and renew such licenses being Dog and Rabies goes hand in hand and getting such adorable yet unlicensed pet inside a residential complex has a risk to owners if dog bites spreads deadly rabies and one has to take 5 costly injections with the wound and pain. Yes, Not all stray dogs around and inside housing societies are vaccinated but the nearest once being the pet at home has to be vaccinated compulsory. Once ‘Medical Office Health’ MOH approves and issues the license, Your pet is safe for all.

Pet once adopted / purchased / transferred from other owner has to be vaccinated by local veterinarian doctor who will issue a certificate having complete details like doctors clinic address, pet owners address, contact details, breed, date of birth, vaccination and de-worming schedules. This card & Xerox (Photo Copy) has to be submitted along with the license application form duly filled with required details to get a license valid of next 1 year as a proof of a rabies free safe pet at home and in your housing society. Legally, No one can take any objections for your beloved family member dogs.

Benefits of having Pet License?

  • Finding a Missing Dog - A license tag helps animal control and shelters quickly identify your dog and get him back to you safely. If your dog is found wandering the streets, a rescue organization can easily look up your dog via its license identifying number. Dogs that are licensed tend to be kept at the shelter longer than unlicensed dogs, which are the first to be euthanized if their owners do not quickly claim them.

  • Licensing Proves Your Dog is Safe - A dog cannot be licensed unless it is properly vaccinated. Animal control or a Good Samaritan will be much more likely to want to handle and care for your missing pup if they know that it is healthy and sans rabies.

  • License Fees Support Many Local Animal Shelters - Typically, the annual fee that you pay to license your dog helps to keep shelters running and supports the work of your local animal control. By paying to properly ID your dog, you are helping to feed and house stray dogs found on the streets within your city.

  • Your dog will be safer at the shelter - Licensed dogs are kept longer at shelters, and are less likely to be euthanized than unlicensed dogs are. If for some reason the shelter is having a hard time getting ahold of you, the shelter is more likely to be patient and keep trying.

Govt. will first send notices to the owner, if he does not have a licence for the pet dog. If he still fails to get it, his dog will be seized and kept at Municipal Corporation’s animal welfare centre. It will be returned to him only after he obtains or renews the license,” said a senior civic official.

For the effective implementation of the act, Municipal Corporation Govt. have decided to appoint veterinary doctors (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata & Ghaziabad) in each of zones.
